JOB ANNOUNCEMENT IMMIGRATION ATTORNEY / PROGRAM COORDINATOR

The International Institute of the Bay Area welcomes, educates and serves immigrants and their families as they join and contribute to the community. IIBA has offices in 4 Bay Area counties. IIBA’s Redwood City Office provides legal immigration and citizenship services to over 4,000 people per year. We are seeking a full-time experienced bilingual (Spanish/English) immigration attorney to join our Redwood City staff of seven.
Position Summary: Support IIBA’s mission by providing quality immigration-specific legal service, advice, and representation to low-income client population; supervising legal work of employees and volunteer workers at site; representing IIBA at events for clients, partner organizations, and the media; and maintaining high standards for legal protocols and record keeping. This position reports directly to IIBA’s Director of Programs.
Duties:
Legal Services & Case Management: Provide full representation, brief service, and legal advice to low income clients filing applications, including family-based and humanitarian immigration petitions, DACA, waivers, U Visas, naturalization, and removal defense.
Outreach & Group Processing: Conduct workshops, clinics, outreach activities and information sessions, including occasional evening and weekend events.
Supervise Legal Work: Train and supervise direct reports, administrative support staff, and legal interns and other volunteers
Maintain Legal Best Practices: Comply with IIBA’s policies, procedures, protocols, and best practices for non-profit immigration law practice.
Fee Assessment: Assess fees for services, sign contracts with clients, work with administrative staff to ensure fees are collected and applications are filed in a timely manner.
Community Leadership: Participate in meetings and webinars on behalf of IIBA and its partner organizations and collaborators. Occasionally take part in radio and television interviews, as well as support social media networking efforts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Advanced legal research and writing skills.
Dedicated to providing high quality legal assistance and capable of handling complex legal
immigration and naturalization issues on behalf of low-income populations.
Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail for forms completion.
Outstanding public speaking skills in English and Spanish, with ability to conduct outreach and
education events for large groups and media interviews.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple deadlines effectively.
Ability to act independently and exercise sound judgment.
Commitment to serve immigrants and sensitivity to the needs of the low-income, culturally
diverse newcomer community.
Proficiency in a Windows/PC environment, and able to quickly become proficient in the use of
IIBA’s immigration law software and database.
Qualifications: Indicate the level of experience or accomplishment necessary to successfully perform the duties listed above. Education: J.D. from ABA certified law school or international equivalent Certifications: Admission to any state bar or the Washington D.C. bar.
Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in immigration law assisting immigrants with family visa petitions, waivers, naturalization, U Visas, and removal defense. Language: Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish.
